In first grade, we hope to encourage all students the chance to develop outstanding relationships with everyone. Developing new friendships will be encouraged through lessons, activities, projects, field trips and more. As your child's first grade teacher, we value the classroom to be a learning environment for all. Learning is reciprocal and not just teacher directed. Our philosophy embraces the fact that we will learn from your child as much as he or she will learn from us.
I have been teaching at Momilani Elementary School since 1994. I have taught only kindergarten and first grade my whole career of 20+ years. I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a bachelor’s of arts degree in Sociology and Psychology. I also earned a Professional Diploma in Elementary Education. I enjoy teaching the first graders and seeing the sparks in their eyes when they are excited about learning. I encourage my students to try their best in all that they do and to be kind and respectful to others.
I started teaching first grade at Momilani Elementary in 2005 before moving to Hawaii Island in 2008 where I taught at Mountain View Elementary. While at Mountain View Elementary, I taught grades 2-4. I have also taught grades 7 and 8 at Highlands Intermediate. I received my Master’s of Education in Teaching from the University of Hawaii in 2005 and also taught Kindergarten for 6 months at Holomua Elementary for my practicum. I try to instill within my students not only the value of academics, but the value of being an all around good hearted person who makes the right decisions when nobody is looking. I believe that character education is equally important as academic education, and parental involvement is a key component for a child’s success in life. Through hard work, determination, grit, and gratitude, I tell my students that no goal is unachievable.
I have been a teacher at Momilani Elementary since 1993 and have taught grades K-2. Prior to teaching at Momilani, I taught kindergarten at Nanakuli Elementary for five years. I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and I have a Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Education as well. I enjoy teaching because not only do I get to teach children, but I also get to learn new things in the process. I believe that education is a partnership between the home and school, and by working together we can achieve success!
