What is the meaning of Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a national holiday to give thanks for the blessing of the harvest. The first Thanksgiving celebration was in 1621, when the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast. They shared pumpkin, squash, berries, clams, and fish. Ever since 1863, Thanksgiving has been celebrated as a national holiday on the last Thursday in November, after Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it as a national holiday of "Our Beneficent Father Who Dwelleth in the Heavens." We wouldn't be eating turkey for Thanksgiving dinner if it weren't for him.

Some things that I am always thankful for during Thanksgiving are my wonderful teachers, who work hard to teach every day, and my parents, who gave all of their effort to raise me and my sister. I am also very grateful for the home and the food that I have. I couldn't imagine having no food, water, and shelter, living in the side of the street, begging people for food. I am also thankful for the money that I have to buy things that I want, such as toys, clothes, and furniture. I am sure everyone is thankful for the opportunity to play games. Imagine a world without iPads, phones, and computers. I am really thankful for everything that I have, from a crumb of food, to a gigantic bed to rest on at night.

Thanksgiving at my house is really fun. My sister, my dad, and my mom all gather together to feast on a juicy turkey (with gravy), green bean casserole, topped off with fried onions, brown rice, and for dessert, we have apple pie. We always save a little bit of food, drive down the road, and donate the food to a homeless person, who need it. Also, we always play a boardgame, which is usually Trouble. Whoever wins it gets an extra slice of apple pie! At night, my sister and I get to stay up late, which is a very special treat, since we sleep very early. Thanksgiving at my house is so much fun!

Some other way you can celebrate Thanksgiving is to invite some friends and family to your house and feed on some stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and corn. You can do anything you like, as long as you have fun! There are endless possibilities for what you can do on Thanksgiving! I hope you all have fun on Thanksgiving and give gratitude where thanks is deserved!
